SEGOVIA CAMPUS, UNIVERSITY OF VALLADOLID.
Ideas Contest.
2005. SEGOVIA.
The proposal addresses the integration and coexistence of pre-existing and new architecture, in an exercise to establish a dialogue between the two and to preserve the memory of the place.
In line with this objective, using as a starting point the “detailed analysis of the historical, archaeological and architectural characteristics of the Artillery Regiment Building, formerly the Ortiz fabric factory” and taking into account the values of origin, content, meaning and relevance, the proposal aims to retain several existing buildings, integrating them into the complex with the necessary rehabilitation and adaptation for their new use.
In accordance with the concept of an integrated Campus, site physiognomy, planned requirements, the integration of existing buildings, and other factors such as concept, composition, operation, volume, environment, etc., the design of the new building proposes two floors above ground and one underground floor, establishing direct internal communication between the different centres in the Campus, a common space connecting all others, barrier-free and protected from the weather. The volume of the building generates roof space for open air activities, with views over the city and the surrounding landscape.
The volume of the main lecture theatre is organized as an urban element relating the new and old buildings and the space generated by the free outside space and open air sports area.
