Proposal Summary
The physical arrangement of buildings in a U shape facing south is determined by the solar orbits and the sun exposure analysis performed to define optimum use of sunlight, exceeding the minimum exposure recommended by the Urban Planning regulation for Los Molinos.
The building is surrounded by gardens that naturally regulate the surrounding environment in terms of climate and acoustics, and provide private and community leisure areas.
The provision of community spaces, both covered and open air, at ground level and on the rooftops of the buildings, generate additional facilities that enrich the life of the community, merging the advantages of block housing with those of a detached home and casting aside antagonistic topics.
The wellness area, with fitness room, jacuzzi, sauna, shower and toilets; the open air swimming pool surrounded by gardens on the ecological rooftop, with the covers of photovoltaic panels acting as shade trees; the children’s playroom, and ground level gardens, together encourage relaxation, leisure, sports, entertainment and in summary, the optimum cohabitation of the building’s residents.
ADAPTABILITY AND SUSTAINABILITY
The proposal is an example of architecture adapted to place, people and their need for comfort in balance with nature.
To achieve this balance, the design considers and regulates factors such as location, orientation, sunlight, wind, breezes, ventilation, internal temperature balance, micro-climates, plant-life, light and acoustics.
From the viewpoint of sustainability, we have considered the rational use of renewable and non-renewable energy sources, recycling of solid and liquid residues, the use of non-pollutant materials, water recycling, energy efficiency, new telecommunications technology used in the development of the digital city, work from home practices, the efficient use of time and the subsequent reduction in travel..
