PALACE OF JUSTICE.
Ideas Contest.
2003. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The horizontal architecture proposed for the Palace of Justice acts as an integrating element between the vertical city of Vega de San José and the horizontal volumes of the Vegueta district.
The balance and harmony of the architectural proposal provides a gradual transition, a panorama, at the entrance to the city from the airport and the south of the island, uniting the urban fabric of the two districts between which it sits. The result is a conjunction of the ideas of transparency, balance, rigour, equity, pulchritude and the transposition of all these concepts to construction, through the magical and emotional process of creation, during which other new concepts arise and intersect.
Stepped levels, recesses and projections, horizontal and vertical openings, the referential manifestation of sustaining elements, and the use of a double skin on the facade to the east and west which, in communion with light, convert the building into a point of reference at the entrance to the city.
From this conjunction emanate the relevance and emblematic character of the architectural proposal.
