GREEN VILLAGE.
THEMED SHOPPING CENTER.
2004. Ponferrada. LEÓN.

SITE.

The development site is located north of the town of Ponferrada.

EXISTING FACILITIES

The existing football stadium, sports centre and stadium, heated swimming pools, sports tracks and car parks will be integrated into the development plan by addressing the related connecting space and also with additional, improved green zones and sports facilities and retail and leisure areas, to create an attractive leisure space that will become a reference in the city.

NEW FACILITIES.

GREEN ZONES.

The energy park located longitudinally north of the development area connects Rosaleda - Cuatrocientos Park with Concordia Park and the terrain of the former thermal station: together, they form the large green corridor of Ponferrada.  A lake links the new pedestrian street, with its sports installations and shopping and recreation areas, to green zones.

The sports club park, located south-west of existing sports facilities, will complete the proposed open air installations.

SPORTS FACILITIES.

An ice rink will complement and promote existing facilities and in itself, is planned to become a reference in the city.  Its location at the center of the development area confirms its relevance to the plan.

A wellness centre with a gymn, spa and beauty center, located in the buildings lining the pedestrian street and communicating with the new energy park and the lake, is another significant installation in this development.

A golf center, also included in the building complex on the pedestrian street and featuring a putting green, practice green, three Par 3 holes and a terrace bar, completes the offering of new facilities.

RETAIL AND LEISURE AREAS.

The retail operations located in the new buildings, in independent premises no larger than 1500 m2, are intended as a solution for small and medium retail businesses currently located in the town centre, which today are required to offer better equipped installations surrounded by a full range of services.  These independent stores mingle with the essential leisure facilities that complete the variety of services for the city that planned usage will require.

SUSTAINABILITY.

Sustainability is a primary aspect of the development project and design criteria, and addresses energy efficiency; use of renewable resources such as solar energy; re-generation and re-cycling of grey and black waters for the irrigation of garden areas and the golf green; use of non-pollutant refrigeration and heating systems; avoidance of pollutant or non-recyclable materials such as PVC, urea, and asbestos; and use of building systems and materials that can be re-cycled or re-used in the future.

The design of pedestrian areas, streets and green zones is intended to achieve a high level of comfort for users, creating adequate micro climates.

Special emphasis has been placed on solutions allowing adequate and easy maintenance at a low cost.
